Why Did outcomes of Johnny Deep-Amber Heard Trial differ in UK and US?

On Wednesday, a verdict was delivered on Johnny Deep Vs Amber Heard trial and Johnny Deep won the case. But in 2020, Johnny deep lost the case against the sun newspaper for calling Johnny Deep a “Wife-Beater” in UK. Amber Heard gave evidence to this case which were found substantially true and the verdict was in favor of the sun.

The UK case was different than the US case in many perspectives. Firstly, UK case was Sun VS Johnny Deep and Amber Heard was a witness in the case. Many evidence on Johnny Deep’s side were prevented at that time. Based on the evidence and testimony by Amber Heard, judge believed 12 of 14 domestic violence incidents occurred. The judge relied on the fact that Amber Heard donated the 7 million dollars to charity proving Amber Heard had no financial gain from the divorce settlement and hence she was speaking truth. The judge was the sole decider of the case and Johnny Deep Lost.

In the US case, there were nine Jury through the trial watching on the evidence and witnesses testimony presented in the court. Each side were allowed to present their story, evidence and testimony. Going through all the evidence and testimony, jury was not convinced that Amber Heard was a victim of domestic abuse by Johnny Deep and found that the claim made by Amber Heard were utterly false. This happened largely because Amber Heard lied again and again. She made public claims before the trial stating she donated the entire 7 million. When it was revealed that She never donated the 7 million dollar she tried to argue that she pledged it and she used pledge and donation simultaneously. She denied that she leaked the video of Johnny Deep banging cabinets to TMZ. It was later testified by TMZ’s former employee that the video must have come from the source as TMZ got the copyright and released the video within 15 minutes of receiving the video. Since the video was shoot by Amber Heard on her phone, it was clear that she or her team sent it to TMZ. This are just few examples, but her lies kept piling up through the trial. Jury didn’t believe her at all. So, the verdict was in favor of Johnny Deep
