9 Daily habits for better life

Everyone ones the best life possible, right? We wake up and work every day to make our lives better whether it be financially, emotionally, or spiritually. Today, I am going to talk about small habits that you can have to improve your life. These are small changes that you can make in your daily routine. You don’t have to start all at once, that often tends to be overwhelming. Pick a few habits and start from there. The changes in your life as a result of this habit don’t happen overnight. You will require consistency with the habit to see the changes. So, let’s talk about nine habits that can help you live better.
- Make your bed
If you want to change the world start off by making your bed. – William H. McRaven
If you start making your bed every morning, that is one task you have accomplished that day. It will give you satisfaction and pride in the accomplishment. This accomplishment will motivate you to do more tasks. If you have a bad day and you don’t get anything right during the day, at the end of the day, you will come to the bed you made and have a sense of pride in yourself.
- Write Gratitude Journal
A gratitude journal helps to focus on the good things that are there in our life. Write things you are grateful for each day. It could be just one thing for a day. It could be the same thing on multiple days. It doesn’t matter. You can list them in a notebook or journal. This helps us to see the positive things in our life, no matter how rough the day is. This helps us to notice things that are usually taken for granted.
- Turn off the notifications
Today we all are in a race, we have our cell phones with apps that are constantly pushing notifications throughout the day. We end up checking our phone every time this notification pops up and this distracts us from whatever we were doing. Try turning off the notification and going offline for at least an hour a day. Let them keep coming and only check after an hour. I know this can be hard, but you can do it. Place your phone far from you while trying this, so you don’t have the temptation to check it every 5 minutes.
- Read for 10 minutes a day
Reading is a powerful tool that human beings have that other creatures don’t. Most of the successful people around the globe are readers. Start making reading a habit. Try out with a fictional book, if you are into stories or drama. There are so many topics to choose from. Whether it is a fictional or non-fictional book, spend at least 10 minutes daily reading a book. If you don’t have time each day, read 1 hour and 10 minutes once a week. You can find a way around your schedule. Gradually increase the 10 minutes time as you get into reading.
- Exercise every morning at least for 5 minutes
Exercise is important not just for your physical health but also for your mental health. The goal of doing 5 minutes of exercise in the morning is to move your body. You can of course increase the time moving forward. When you are starting, and especially if you don’t do exercise at all, 5 minutes can be the perfect start time for you so that you don’t burn out on the first day. If you are comfortable you can start with 20 or 30 minutes.
- Spend some time with yourself
With the busy world around us, we often forgot to spend time with ourselves. You are either on your phone, computer, with friends or with your pets. Spend some time just with yourself, it can be a minute or 30 minutes. Whatever you are comfortable with. Just be with your thoughts and give yourself some time.
- Say No
The habit of saying “No” when you want to say no is very important. Many people don’t feel comfortable saying no to things. If you don’t want to do something, just say No. Don’t say Yes, because you think your friends may feel bad. Practice this by saying No to at least one thing a week. Understand the signal from your body, when you don’t want to do something or you don’t like to hang out with certain people and say No.
- Drink Enough Water
Our body is a machine and requires fuel to run. We often forget this. While we take care of machines (car, fridge) that we own, we neglect the prime thing that is our body. Water is fuel to humans and has many benefits from preventing dehydration and constipation to regulating body temperature and maintaining electrolyte balance. According to the U.S. National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine, a male requires an average of 3.7 liters of fuel per day and a female requires an average of 2.7 liters of fuel per day.
- Social media fast
We are so into social media that we have FMO (Fear of Missing Out) when we see our friends doing something cool. This can create pressure and unnecessary tension. Try out going away from social media start by doing this for some time, then for a day and week. Tim Ferris talks about social media fast in his book 4-Hour Work Week.
